For many of us, family is our support network. They encourage us to accomplish goals. They keep us accountable, making sure we attend school, helping us learn and grow. They look out for us and steer us away from danger and toward safety. They build us up with love and affirmation.

Yet sometimes family hurts us the most. For many of the youth that we serve, this is the case. Too often they face rejection and abuse. It’s heartbreaking.

That was the case for one 16 year old young woman who turned to The Coffee Oasis case management for help. We will call her Camellia*. When she came to us, she had just left an abusive family situation.

Yet because of compassionate people like you, she got to join a new family: The Coffee Oasis family.

Camellia met with a case manager who helped her identify her needs and goals, make a plan to accomplish them, and encouraged her along the way. Her case manager checked-in with her regularly and helped Camellia…

…re-enroll in school.

…receive counseling.

…maintain her grades in school.

…successfully complete job preparation classes and update her resume.

Yet her story isn’t over. And like so many of the youth that we serve, she needs continued, consistent encouragement and guidance. Her case manager continues to check in with her monthly and she is planning on applying for jobs this summer.
