A Safe Place to Turn

“I know a lot of the kids that go through Coffee Oasis don’t really have anyone else to go to. That was my situation, My mom had just kicked me out, I was by myself. And someone recommended The Coffee Oasis to me.”

When Dakota was 16, he went through The Coffee Oasis job training program and internship. He learned to build his resume, how to present himself, and what employers are looking for. He shared that, “Leigh specifically was fantastic, she talked me down with my anxiety, she was calming, gentle, and very friendly. Coffee Oasis made me realize everything would be alright.”

He completed his internship at Habitat for Humanity, and this experience helped him get to where he is today. “Completing the job training, first off, made me feel good. It’s beneficial to do something that would help better myself and get me far in life. They’re great skills to have for someone who maybe hasn’t had a job before. I learned a lot of stuff customer service wise that still helps me today and practical skills as well.”

It’s been a few years since the program, and Dakota has found employment he enjoys at a product supply company working with contractors and handling large scale projects. He was even awarded top salesman for a month.

A Pathway to Stability

Reflecting on his time working with staff at The Coffee Oasis, Dakota shared, “I know that these situations happen, but there’s always someone out there willing to help you. The Coffee Oasis feels like family, makes you feel heard, and provides resources needed to thrive. They will always be there, no matter how hard life seems.”

The Coffee Oasis job training program and internship is a key service to help prepare youth for their future. It is often challenging for teens and young adults to find employment, especially without prior experience. This program offers a pathway to stability by equipping youth with the skill set needed to be successful in the workforce.
