Tonight, thousands of young people throughout Washington will sleep outside under park benches and in tents. Even more will find themselves in unsafe or unstable home environments, often leading to homelessness.
Morris* is one of many youth in need of a safe place to stay. Morris was raised in New York by his aunt. Morris lived with her until her husband became abusive. His aunt chose to remain with her husband and decided to send Morris to stay with his father in Seattle. Morris had never met him before. Feeling pawned off by anyone and everyone, Morris felt no real sense of identity and yearned for love. He stayed with his father for about six months, but tension grew between them until his father pushed him out.
With nowhere else to go, the Seattle Police Department brought him to The Coffee Oasis Youth Shelter in Tacoma–The Loft Youth Shelter.
You can provide youth like Morris with a safe place to stay. We estimate it will cost $659,100 to fully-fund The Coffee Oasis youth shelters for one year. For only $60, you can provide one night of safety and shelter for a youth in your community.
