When Kasey* met a Coffee Oasis Youth Development Staff at a local grocery store, she shared a shortened version of her life story. She expressed that she just moved here, was studying at Olympic College, and looking to make friends in the LGBTQIA+ community. She began attending The Coffee Oasis drop-in center and meeting with a case manager for extra educational assistance and community connection. After about 30 minutes of sitting and doing some work, she began crying and apologizing for being dishonest about her living situation and asked for help in finding a place to live, because she was currently living out of her car.
You can help provide Kasey with a safe place to live through the Nelson House Program!
Nelson House is a supportive housing opportunity for women 18-25 years old seeking to have a safe environment to live while they work towards gaining employment, education, and life skills for successful independent futures. Residents contribute to their community and learn new skills—including teamwork, taking direction, and time management—by doing maintenance at a local city park. Residents meet regularly with a case manager who helps them work towards achieving their educational, employment, housing, and personal goals.
We estimate it will cost $80,950 to fully fund the Nelson House Program for one year. For only $42, you can provide one night’s stay at the Nelson House for a youth like Kasey.
