“We pay 30% of our income to stay in the apartment. I need temporary stable housing before I get an official apartment.”
We are excited to share that Jess* moved into the Evergreen Bright Start Program last month!
This 24-unit supported-living housing program, in partnership with Bremerton Housing Authority and Kitsap Housing Solutions, is a unique opportunity for young adults who are ready to build independence. Jess completed an extensive interview process to get into the housing program.
Her case manager expressed that she felt this would be a good fit since she was a hardworking person and desired to go to school, get a car, and get her license.
“I plan on staying there for a year and then move out to live with my best friend. Mine is a one bedroom with a walk in closet. We pay 30% of our income to stay in the apartment. I need temporary stable housing before I get an official apartment.”
Jess shared that she would like to stay in Bremerton. “I like the area because it’s right near where all the buses are and ferries are so it’s easy access to transportation.”
Through Evergreen Bright Start there are opportunities to build community and find support.
“They have a lot of little events to get to know each other and activities. We did painting pots and origami. We have movie nights… I have connections with one of the resident managers. We have another case manager we can meet with weekly to talk about how we’re feeling and what we plan to do and update on our life.”
Jess is enjoying her job at the YMCA–teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding. She likes working with kids and being able to form a connection with her students. She has applied to Olympic College for the fall and would like to work towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She looks forward to hiking and camping with her friends this summer.
