The Coffee Oasis Nelson House in Poulsbo will be closing it’s doors on January 26th, 2024.
Nelson House was a supportive housing opportunity for women 18-25 years old seeking to have a safe environment to live while they work towards gaining employment, education, and life skills for successful independent futures. Residents contributed to their community and learned new skills—including teamwork, taking direction, and time management—by doing maintenance at a local city park. Residents met regularly with a Case Manager who helped them work towards achieving their educational, employment, housing, and personal goals.
As a supportive/transitional housing program, one of the primary goals was to prepare residents for independent living. So, after a six month stay and working with a Case Manager towards gaining employment or income, residents paid a program fee to simulate what independent living will look like for them paying rent.
It has been an honor and a privilege to walk alongside the young ladies who have sought solace within The Coffee Oasis housing program at the Nelson House. Some of these young ladies met us and transitioned from our shelter in Bremerton to the Nelson House and then into permanent housing. One of the young ladies who stayed with us at the Nelson House even held her wedding reception at Nelson Park because it held such a special place in her heart.
Nelson House first opened its doors in 2017. It has housed 94 youth since its opening. 76 of those youth moved on to permanent housing. From 2019 to 2023, there were 4,694 bed nights provided at The Coffee Oasis Nelson House.
