STEP UP FOR YOUTH
Start conversations and take action around youth homelessness
Youth facing homelessness encounter a wide range of challenges, including walking with all of their belongings from one resource to another.
When we consider the lack of food, sleep, and security available to them, the miles they walk daily increase as they search for resources.
We hope that this virtual fitness challenge helps our community reflect on the challenges youth are experiencing in Kitsap and Pierce County and encourages you to take action in providing resources.
How does this work?
From June 30 – September 8, 2025 we will walk a total of 55 miles (which averages to 5.5 miles per week). You can complete this challenge solo, as a family, or with friends.
We ask that anyone who commits to this challenge makes a donation to The Coffee Oasis youth programs and helps us raise awareness with our milestone statistic images.

FAQ
What is the Step Up For Youth Challenge?
Walk 55 miles over 10 weeks to support homeless youth. Your steps connect our Coffee Oasis locations while your donations provide shoes and fund vital youth programs in Kitsap and Pierce counties. Join solo or with friends—every mile matters! If we receive donations above and beyond what is needed to provide shoes for youth, the funds go toward our youth programs.
How do I track my progress?
You can print out a tracker sheet or log your own miles with any fitness app. Accomplishing this challenge is based on the honor system.
Do I have to do 5.5 miles a week or can I break it down differently?
You can accomplish this virtual challenge in whatever way you choose, but we have set a goal of 5.5 miles per week for an easier breakdown. Where and how you meet this goal is up to you!
When are youth getting their new shoes?
Youth 13-25 can sign up for their new shoes this summer at their local Drop-In Center. They will receive their shoes during the Back to School Block Party for that location Aug 22, 2025. Any extra funds raised from this event will go directly to youth programs at The Coffee Oasis.
