Each winter, teens and young adults at The Coffee Oasis look forward to the annual Christmas party to gather with friends, play games, enjoy a Christmas dinner, hear the Christmas story, and open presents. For many, this is their only Christmas celebration; and this year, you provided Christmas gifts for 273 youth in Kitsap and Pierce Counties.
Volunteers and staff arrived early to decorate and set-up tables for a delicious meal of ham, green bean casserole, corn pudding, mashed potatoes, macaroni, apple pies, and Christmas cookies prepared by community members.
The teens and young adults enjoyed the creative and festive games. One youth center played “Dress up Santa” where teams of youth decorated one member as Santa using red garbage bags, black duct tape, and cotton balls. Another center had a gift wrapped in an abundance of plastic wrap and youth passed around the plastic wrap ball trying to unwrap it as quickly as possible to reach the prize.
Thanks to your generosity, staff were able to individually pick gift items for each youth. One youth was brought to tears as she unwrapped a gorgeous, artisan-style Bible. Another, was in shock at receiving a classical guitar and immediately filled the center with beautiful music.
Youth expressed their gratitude for the evening:
“This night was a night that I really appreciated. It was nice having a dinner and meal around individuals that genuinely care for me. If y’all hadn’t provided christmas gifts for me, I wouldn’t have had a Christmas.” – Tajay
“I really enjoyed the presents this year. The games were fun. A wonderful experience with people I care about.” – Mac
This event would not be possible without you–our generous community. We are grateful for all who provided Christmas gifts and for the many volunteers who prepared food, wrapped gifts, set-up the event, and cleaned up after the party.
One volunteer shared:
“What a great turnout! The youth were polite and patient and the volunteers serving them were amazing! A high energy, jam-packed night that always adds joy to our Christmas season.” – Diana
Thank you for providing Christmas for teens and young adults in your community!
