Sometimes we don’t know what happens after we give. We give and let go, trusting that it will in some small way change the world. We want to give you a glimpse of the lives you changed through a little story of one girl.
The whole night seemed daunting, we were preparing feasts for hundreds of kids and their families in Port Orchard, Bremerton, and Poulsbo. We were going to celebrate Christmas as three big families and I hosted one table—one out of many. As I served food to my table I noticed a girl will straight dark hair and a baggy sweatshirt sitting next to me. It was her quietness that caught my attention amidst the boisterous family atmosphere. “Do you have Christmas plans?” I asked. “No. My family doesn’t do anything. This is my Christmas,” she told me. I found out she had recently transferred to a local alternative school because she was pregnant. How soon? “Oh, any day now,” she said looking down. Any day! My heart was sore. On that night we lived the Christmas story together: a young girl (Mary), unsupported by family and pregnant, shares a night with strangers (shepherds) and they become as close as family.
This year, 220 kids attended the Christmas parties, and 184 received gifts through the Family Christmas Project.
Thank you for your generosity in helping us share Christmas with hundreds who would have gone without.
We love you guys!
