Julie Judy shares about her 250-lap walkathon fundraiser for The Coffee Oasis: PROJECT 250

One of the biggest commodities each of us is given is the gift of time. What we do with it and who we give it to matters.

In early 2022 I was diagnosed with Breast cancer.  One of the first questions I had (beyond wondering how serious was it) was how much of my time would be used to manage my breast cancer?  How would I feel and how uncomfortable would it be?

The 250 project was born out of a desire to partner with The Coffee Oasis’s mission to restore community through compassionate youth programs and sustainable cafe businesses.

After being diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year I really learned firsthand how necessary it is for my mental health to have access to a place like Chambers Bay.   Having access to this beautiful place allows me to breathe, slow down my anxious thoughts & connect with God meaningfully.

The Project 250 goal is straightforward:  The goal is for me to walk at least 250 laps all at Chambers Bay by December 31st & raise awareness and support for TCO (The Coffee Oasis).

TCO serves YEH (youth experiencing homelessness). Those youth need access to resources such as safe housing and case management.

YEH are often labeled as delinquent, rebellious and lazy.  And it always breaks my heart because I don’t believe those labels are fair.

My experience being around YEH has taught me they frequently feel alone, abandoned, they feel scared, many if not all, are suffering from mental and physical abuse and often have a very reduced sense of their worth.

But many are also funny, kind, sacrificial and desperate to feel loved.

TCO wants give give them access to:

  1. Safe Housing
  2. Physical & Mental Health Resources
  3. Access to Educational Resources
  4. And opportunities to adopt healthy habits & behaviors.

My hope is the 250 Project will shed light on the work TCO is doing to provide hope to youth who are hurting.

I’m committed to walking at least 250 laps and  I hope others will consider supporting Project 250, in collaboration with TCO.   Their support can help raise funding for the housing and programs that youth may access to transition from surviving to thriving.

Your donation will provide a safe place for youth to take shelter, heal, belong, and grow in Tacoma through The Coffee Oasis youth programs.
