Summer is here, bringing all the joys of sun, time outside, family trips, and rest.

It’s also bringing exciting opportunities for the youth served by The Coffee Oasis. The need is great, but our community continues to surprise with innovative ways to meet that need. Check it out.

JUNE ROUND-UP REPORT

1. 25 Oasis youth raised all their own funds to go to Summer Camp! Through a variety of fundraisers, boys and girls from Oasis programs raised enough money to go to Island Lake Camp for a week in July. We are so proud of them for their team work and commitment. For many of the youth, this is a rare week of being in a safe, fun environment with caring adults. We are also thankful for the various people, businesses, and churches who came to the fundraisers and supported the kids!

2. A new transitional house for young women was approved in Poulsbo! The city agreed to give The Coffee Oasis a contract to use a house in Nelson Park as a transitional house for women in Oasis programs who are working their way out of homelessness. This is an incredible win-win for our community: it provides a much-needed housing opportunity for homeless youth, and provides the city with caretakers for the house and the park! The hope is to open the house this fall. To learn more, check out the Kitsap Sun article here.
