Kat* was smart, lively, and popular, but she wasn’t doing well in school. Her absent days were piling up and her grades were falling behind. A drug addiction was slowly leading her to a dark place. And the longer it goes on, the worse it’s going to get. Unfortunately, Kat is one of the many people around the world who are struggling with drug addiction. Some even refuse to believe they have one in the first place, until something like a Conroe drug testing service tells them otherwise. By accepting that you have a problem, you can begin the road to recovery.
A Coffee Oasis outreach worker knew Kat and saw the change happening in her life. In conversation, Kat shared that she battled with shame and hopelessness. She found herself pulling away from her family. The outreach worker was a constant encouragement to Kat, inviting her to get help, “Come down to the Coffee Oasis. The door is always open. No one will judge you.”
Shortly after that conversation, Kat dropped out of school. Her mom didn’t know where she was staying. A couple months later, the outreach worker saw Kat at a park.
“How are you doing?”
“Not so good. Really not good.”
Once again Kat was invited to come to The Coffee. “The door is always open.”
That week, Kat walked in on her own to the Port Orchard Coffee Oasis. She began case management, then completed job classes and began a job internship. She became sober. Her relationships with her family were restored and she moved home. Her grades picked up, and she graduated on time! After she finished her internship, the business offered her a permanent job.
At her graduation celebration, Kat said, “Thank you for everything. I couldn’t have done any of this without you walking me into the light.”
Through consistent outreach, we are able to meet kids when they are in dark places. We are able to remind them of who they really are, to offer hope, and walk with them into the light.
