Community Advocate 

Advocate for homeless and at-risk youth in your community! Raise awareness about The Coffee Oasis’ mission, youth programs, and impact. Share with your community, church, friends, and network. We will equip you with tools and resources to host your own events and share with your community! 

Requirements:

  • Agree to follow organization guidelines
  • Community Development training

Personality Traits:

  • Personable and social
  • Organized, mature, and professional
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Time Commitment: As needed or available

Crisis Text Line Volunteer

Youth need to know that there is someone out there who cares about them and who would be devastated if they didn’t keep pushing through. You can be the one!

As a Crisis Text Line volunteer, you will get the opportunity to respond to youth experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, etc. via text, offering support through listening, conversation, and directing youth to resources as appropriate.  The 24/7 text line platform is an application that can be operated from any computer or mobile device. All calls are forwarded to your personal phone anonymously during your shift.

Requirements:

  • Age over 21 years’ old
  • Not a current client of Kitsap, Jefferson, or Peninsula Mental/Behavioral Health
  • Completion of in-person Crisis Response Training

Personality Traits:

  • Compassionate and empathetic
  • Able to keep calm and focused in stressful or traumatic situations
  • Able to engage in risk assessment and articulate response

Time Commitment: Minimum 6 hours per month

Drop-In Center Volunteer

Center volunteers build relationships with youth through playing games, engaging in conversation, and helping them think about the future.

Requirements:

  • Comfortable approaching youth and building new friendships
  • A good reputation as a role model to younger people

Personality Traits:

  • Comfortable in crowds
  • Makes people feel at home and part of a family.
  • Enjoys facilitating group activities and able to work in team setting

Time Commitment: Minimum 4 hours a month

Street Outreach Volunteer

Street Outreach volunteers accompany outreach teams in public schools, on the street and at parks to meet new youth, develop relationships, and invite them to enjoy the opportunities at The Coffee Oasis.

Requirements:

  • Comfortable approaching youth and building new friendships
  • Able to pass school background checks

Personality Traits:

  • Enjoys meeting new people
  • Enjoys walking and spending time outdoors (street outreach)
  • Skilled at helping others set attainable goals (school outreach)

Time Commitment: Minimum 4 hours a month

Mentor

Mentors and tutors are a positive influence in the lives of young people enrolled in weekly case management, by listening and helping guide them to make healthy life-decisions.

Requirements:

  • In a stable place in life and maintains healthy boundaries
  • Completion of Mentor Training Session
  • Must volunteer in the drop in center first for 3 months

Personality Traits:

  • Works well 1-on-1
  • Organized, mature, good listener, patient, and persistent
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Time Commitment:  1-2 hours a week for 6 months

Housing Volunteer

Housing volunteers provide a safe, “welcome home” presence to youth staying in our Shelters.

Requirements:

  • Pass a DSHS background check & over 21 years’ old
  • Completion additional training

Personality Traits:

  • Enjoys making youth feel at home
  • Appreciates a more structured setting (state licensed shelter)
  • Good at listening and providing stability for others

Time Commitment: Minimum 6 hours a month

Skills Specific Volunteer Opportunities

Use your specific skills to help further the mission! Help work on facilities, grounds keeping, administration, IT, and/or special events.

Requirements:

  • Specialized technical, mechanical, practical skills
  • Thrives in a project focused environment (“task oriented”)

Personality Traits:

  • More “hands on” than relational & prefers “behind the scenes” work

Time Commitment: As needed or available

Photography Volunteer

Photograph youth, events, and more! You can volunteer for a set amount of time each month, select from our shot list, and/or volunteer for special events!

Requirements:

  • Photography skills and equipment (phone is fine!)
  • Agree to follow photography guidelines

Time Commitment: As needed or available

Videography Volunteer

We are in need of skilled videographers, film makers, and editors to help film and produce videos of our special events, youth stories, and to help share about The Coffee Oasis! Bring your creativity—we’re open to ideas! Or, if you prefer a shot list or story board, we can provide that as well! You can volunteer for a set amount of time each month, select from our shot list, and/or volunteer for special events!

Requirements:

  • Videography skills and equipment (phone is fine!)
  • Agree to follow photography guidelines

Time Commitment: As needed or available
